Why would anyone donate to our Donation Center?

There are many kinds of thrift stores and donation centers in the Denver, ranging from large metal bins in parking lots to the typical thrift stores. Some of these are nonprofits, like Goodwill and Arc, and some of them are for profit entities, such as Red White and Blue Thrift Stores. Of course, people prefer to give their items to good causes and get a tax write off, but it is often not the highest priority. Many times, people are just looking for a place to get rid of their stuff. At the same time, many thrift stores are under increased scrutiny and have soured their donors because of their low wages and very high prices. Goodwill has been the focus of much of this in recent years with their large compensation packages for their corporate officers.

As a church, we are already well-equiped to succeed in this space. We are a nonprofit already, so we can give tax-deductible receipts. We have a building that we can use for receiving and processing donations. We don't have a ton of space, but we have enough to get started. We have many potential volunteers in our community, and we are in an area where there are no nearby thrift stores.

Also, with our "Everything Bank" model, we can contribute to the community in a way that current thrift stores do not, and this may help us to draw even more donations. Long-term, we believe this will even help us develop positive PR for the church.
